Importantly, this online course is also open to anyone across the world with an Internet connection.  Only Chicago public school students, however, can earn a special badge through this city of Chicago initiative.

The course begins Tuesday, June 25.

MOOCs, of course, are those massive open online courses which have caught on like wildfire across the globe.

The course is titled “A Taste of Python Programming.”  It is part of the city of Chicago’s Summer of Learning initiative for high school students.

This introductory programming course includes the following:

  • Based on the first four weeks of an MIT course, it offers the basics of  the Python programming language.
  • The course features videos, as well as reading and programming assignments.
  • A discussion forum will allow students to communicate with each other, and with teaching assistants.

The six-week course runs through August 3.  For parents and students interested in this course,  registration information is here.
