Sugata Mitra: Build a School in the Cloud

By Lillian Williams

What is the future of learning?

Perhaps not what you think!

Sugata Mitra, the Indian education innovator, has a daring plan that has attracted worldwide attention.

He explains it best in this inspiring  2013 TED Talk.

By the way, Mitra won the annual the $1 million TED Prize to enact his bold experiment.

Mitra, of course, also conducted the famous “Hole in the Wall” experiments in which students demonstrate that they can learn just about anything, by themselves, if left alone with the right equipment.

Now he wants to design what he calls,  School in the Cloud, a learning lab in India where children explore  self-directed learning, with mentoring online among other teaching/learning techniques.

Listen to his TED Talk.

It’s your turn. What do you think about his ideas for change in education?  Do his ideas hold lessons for traditional, face-to-face teaching and learning too?
